By looking at The American War Library's & DEA Watch Web Page many people would be led to believe that it is a LEGITIMATE organization, but I am sorry to inform you that is NOT TRUE, THE AMERICAN WAR LIBRARY and DEA Watch is a PAY FOR INFORMATION COMMERCIAL BULLETIN BOARD SERVICE that maintains a Fishing Lure Web Page on the net. People want to be able to find factual information concerning loved ones lost in war, the whereabouts of long lost friends and foxhole buddies, services available for their medical needs and a lot of other important information.

To go along with that you have veterans and non-veterans that have poured a lot of hard work, time, effort and money developing their Web/Home Pages and then to have Phill Coleman of The American War Library and DEA Watch come and down load their data bases and STEAL the links is another reason people need to know the real -- The American War Library & DEA Watch.

And last of all it pains I and others to think that there are unsuspecting people out there that are going to pay for free information, that is available anywhere on the net, and without their knowledge continue to help keep the AWL fraud going. There has been a lot of discussion concerning the How, Who, What, Why and Where is The American War Library, DEA Watch and Phill Coleman.  One of the main questions is, why is Phill Coleman, the AWL & DEA Watch targeted as a bad guy on the Internet news groups?  So hopefully this FAQ page(s) will answer some of those burning questions.

1 Q -- What Is The American War Library & DEA Watch?

A -- It is a COMMERCIAL PAY-FOR-VIEW BULLETIN BOARD SERVICE with a WEB PAGE ON THE INTERNET USED AS THE FISHING LURE. You will currently find it listed as The American War Library, but it has been called other names such as: The American Foreign Conflicts Electronic Library, The American Constitutional Service Electronic Library, The Electronic War Library, War Library, The Vietnam War Electronic Library, The Japanese-American WWII Electronic Library, The Nisei-American Veterans Electronic Library, etc.

The American Law Enforcement Electronic Wall, The American Internment Camp Experience, American Heros Info Services.

One of the NEW names that has appeared in the alt.law-enforcement news group and is being used by Phill Coleman is The American Law Enforcement Electronic Library.  Phill says that he has created a Hall of Fame to honor the US Drug Enforcement Administrations finest.  So now it appears that Phill is trying become the GURU for Law Enforcement as he has stated he is for Veterans.

2. Q. -- How long has The American War Library & DEA Watch been in operation?

A. -- Even though Phill Coleman claims since 1988 for AWL & 1989 for DEA Watch, as far as can be ascertained from the news group archives at Deja News the first postings occurred in April 1995. This check was made against all of the different names listed in question number 1.

3. Q. -- Who is Phill Coleman?

A. -- He is the individual who operates The American War Library & DEA Watch Commercial Bulletin Board System at 16907 Brighton Ave., #B, Gardena, California, 90247. Prior to Gardena he previously operated at 25601 Narbonne, Ste 6, Lomita, CA. 90717. He claims to be a veteran of the Army and also claims to have served in Vietnam, but both those claims have not been substantiated and he refuses to offer any kind of proof. Even though he has demanded it of other Veterans that post to the various Veterans News groups.

4. Q. -- What is the purpose of The American War Library (AWL)?

A. -- The purpose of this Commercial Bulletin Board Service pay-for-view operation is to entice Vietnam Veterans, Gulf War Veterans, Other Veterans, other unsuspecting people, their families and friends into signing up for his "SERVICE". He claims to have a huge database that can provide virtually any information on any veteran to include those pretending to be veterans.

Not only are his claims an outright lie, it is an act of fraud.

The only way to access this "SERVICE" is through a modem number and in some cases by only using the software provided by AWL & DEA Watch, there is NO ACCESS THROUGH THE INTERNET. Also to gain access to this site you have to fill out a form providing your life history, which you should not have to do. Phill Coleman preys on the unsuspecting who are seeking information that is obtainable elsewhere at no cost. Using an Internet search engine such as Yahoo or Infoseek you can get the same information, that AWL provides for a fee, anywhere else for free.

5. Q. -- What News groups does The American War Library (AWL) and DEA Watch post their FISHING LURE WEB PAGE to?

A. -- Per information that is available through Deja News Archives, AWL is/has posted to approximately 109 to 128 different news groups depending on the time frame checked. The latest are:

6. Q. -- What does Phill Coleman of The American War Library post to all of these news groups?

A. -- He posts spam things to generate conversation to make AWL & DEA Watch seem important, he posts responses to people that have requested information (but never refers those individuals to where the FREE information is, only to HIS COMMERCIAL BBS) and most of all he requests information.

As previously stated he is seeking information to enhance his data base, thus allowing him to charge a fee for free information sent to him because people do not know his organization is a fraud, they think it is on the up and up.

NOTE: If Phill Coleman is not receiving an adequate amount of information he then has been known to raid various veterans Web pages and Data Bases stealing their information; attaching his link to their Web page and/or using their web page as a hook on AWL's Fishing Lure Web Page without the owner of the web page ever knowing that his web page is being used to perpetuate a fraud (this is proven and not hearsay).

7. Q. -- How accurate is the information that AWL & DEA Watch claims to have, has provided in the past and what does Phill Coleman do with the information that the unsuspecting provide when they register with AWL?

A -- First the information that the unsuspecting provide to the AWL (Phill Coleman) when registering for his so-called service is UNSECURE, I REPEAT UNSECURE. In the past from what can be seen Coleman has compiled this information along with E-mail addresses and sold this information to Internet Advertisers. Next thing you know you are trying to figure out why your E-mail box is flooded with advertisements.

Second what information has been provided is not very accurate and there is a major credibility gap in much of it, meaning there is NO way to verify the sources that AWL uses, they will not post or release them. You have veterans that have posted their verifiable credentials on the Internet, but yet Coleman's data base does not have them listed as a Veteran of anything.

Case in point being Admiral Boorda, who the AWL said WAS NOT a Vietnam Veteran and was not authorized to wear his Vietnam Service Ribbons. As we all know Admiral Boorda WAS a Vietnam Veteran, but there was only questions about the "V" devices he wore on the ribbons.

Phill Coleman portrays himself as a spokesman for veterans, especially Vietnam veterans. He claims to have insider contacts at the Veterans Administration. He claims to have lists of all the men that served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. In fact VETERANS ADMINISTRATION EXECUTIVES, THE VFW (VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, THE DAV (DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS) AND SEVERAL OTHER SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS HAVE DECRIED THE AMERICAN WAR LIBRARY AS BEING FRAUDULENT BECAUSE OF THEIR OUTLANDISH CLAIMS OF HAVING LISTS OF ALL VETERANS THAT EVER SERVED AND WHERE. Even the Veterans Administration (V.A.) does not have that information.

They must get it on a case by case basis from the branch of the service the person in question claims to have been in or they simply ask to see that persons DD-214 discharge paper and verify it, if they feel it is necessary. No other person anywhere has that kind of information. To get this info from the V.A. one must have a signed **release of information** form (from each person in question) AND be a representative of an organization that the V.A. considers valid enough to have the power of attorney for the person in question. (Immediate family, Social Security Administration, etc.) For V.A. personnel to release information otherwise is a federal crime. Phill Coleman would have us believe that he has people transgressing these rules to further his commercial venture. There are existing lists of veterans, but these are usually compiled from public sources that some veterans allow themselves to be listed in. The only other way to get information on a veteran is to contact that veterans former unit or an association if he belongs to one.

8. Q. -- Is Phill Coleman the only one involved in this scam?

A. -- Apparently so and there is no evidence to the contrary.  Although Phill Coleman uses numerous "PERSONAS or ALIASES" he is easily identifieable because Phill Coleman has a rather unique writing style and a poor memory. This allows the astute members of the news groups to catch and expose his fraudulent activities on a routine basis. Some of Phill Coleman's "PERSONAS or ALIASES" have posted racist, slanderous, degrading and insulting comments directed at the members of the news groups.

Listed below are some of the "PERSONAS or ALIASES" that Coleman has used, bottom line being that all these "PERSONAS or ALIASES" are none other than PHILLIP ROGER COLEMAN.  All of these have been archived through Deja News and is available at any time if verification of Coleman's activities is desired.

10. Q. -- Is the CREDIT CARD or other PERSONAL Information AWL & DEA Watch requests to order items or to fill out the forms SECURE?  

A. -- THAT IS A RESOUNDING NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!  AWL & DEAWatch uses NO security set-up for that information, it goes out on the net as is.  That means ANYONE CAN GET ACCESS TO YOUR INFORMATION and use it for whatever purpose?

11. Q. -- Why can't people see the REAL AWL & DEA Watch for what they are?

A. -- From what I have discovered is -- The MAIN reason is that Phill Coleman of The AWL & DEA Watch posts to different newsgroups and/or different areas, on different days and using different names. FOR AN ACTUAL EXAMPLE: On Feb 7, 1997 I received an E-mail from Marc N. Weiss, President, P.O.V. Interactive who operates the below PBS site, asking for input on some changes they have made. So I popped on over to it to check it out & low & behold guess who was doing alot more posting over there? You guessed it Phill Coleman of The American War Library.

In order to get a clear picture of Phill Coleman you have to get all the posts, because he posts in different places under different names. Sooo, I was able to dig out ten (10) of them and put them here for every one to read and help them GET A CLEAR PICTURE OF Phillip Roger Coleman. From the looks of it there are more there under other names, but ten is enough. Also ALL TEN ARE POSTED BY PHILL COLEMAN UNDER ALIAS'S he uses, All the ISP's listed are ACTIVE, plus he still uses ix.netcom.com besides.

I attended Georgetown with Maya. Roomed two doors down at Penberthy Hall. At dinner one night she picked up an artichoke and said that peeling away the leaves was like opening up people to new ways of thinking. As one layer was exposed the old layer was used to nourish the spirit. The Wall is symbolic of that perspective on life. Maya if you see this tell Sam that Brenda still loves him!! Sam was Maya's dog "Little Black Sambo" Sure its not PC but Maya is no racist and the dog looks just like the illustrations in the Children's book before the fascists took them away.

I recall the first time I met Maya. We were at a party at Jan Scruggs' house and she was eating something that looked like a Vienna Sausage. Strange, I thought for one would suspect that a beautiful African-American artisit would be a vegatarian, or at least limit herself to fish. We spoke briefly and I was enchanted by her quiet charm. But then William Childs Westmoreland whisked her away from me and I never saw her again.

I was an 11B. Clinton would have been a liability in my rifle squad. Gutless people didn't last long in the jungle. He would have caused good men to be killed. Best he stayed home with the women and children (no reflection on you nurses and Donut Dollies . . . loved you all). As far as being president after having illegally avoided the draft . . .he should have gone to jail for it. And felons can't be President.

This country was nothing but swell to me when I returned. After a law enforcement career in DEA was cut short by a bullet, I was able to get a medical degree in part due to the GI Bill of Rights. While attending UCLA I was lucky enough to meet Oliver Stone and Efrem Zimbalist III who encooraged me to write screenpalys. I now have sold my first play to Paramount and plan on donating 5% of my income from it to the VVMF. God Bless this country where people are judged by the content of their character rather than the content of their lives and skin color and service.

Well if you could have gone (right age, sex, race) and didn't go you should feel guilty. I spent 3 years fighting the white man's war against my yellow brothers over there as commander of a Special Forces communications unit. For years I hated myself for having betrayed the cause, fro having been a house n****r. But as I involved I came to understand that communism was just a false beckon of light to the oppressed peoples of the world and -- though hard perfect -- were the best hope of the world. Now I fight for diversity and the right of all race to live harmonylnious united against the white slavers. Only in the true democracy of the USA canthis happen. So if you ran. Shame on you. You should cry each night.

February 11, 1970. I had hitched a ride on a deuce-and-a-half headed for Saigon from my duty station at Bien Hoa. I was with my buddies Ed Gentry and William Peterson. The truck had maybe ten drums on it that were unlabelled. One of the drums started leaking a bright orange liquid out of it. Funny fumes came from the spilled liquid. We banged on the cab and had the driver stop. He just kicked the drum off the truck and off we went. Ed and Bill never made it home, they were killed when the NVA over-ran Bien Hoa during Tet '70. Now I have symptoms of Agent Orange poisoning. Why did the Army let its soldiers get exposed to that bright orange syruppy liquid. We should all get $ 200,000 tax-free for our service.

"Some white vets left the Constitution at home when they said goodbye to their families", the author writes. My Lai and other atrocities committed by white officers and their men should have been no surprise. Phill Coleman, an African-American vet who served a full tour in Vietnam as an Army communications/intelligence specialist, is an articulate chronologer. His "Cannon Fodder" (located at http://members.aol.com/veterans/cf.htm) pulls no punches about the reasons for America's failed mission in Vietnam. Rarely do black vets devote so little discussion on race relations in Vietnam. Coleman puts the racial issue in the same category as others that helped to undermine GI relations and diminish their productivity... a tool used by North Vietnamese like drugs, prostitution and other problems that stymied the US. A revelational book! I think Cannon Fodder is a historical treasure on the Vietnam War.

12. Q. -- What can be done to stop the AWL and Phill Coleman from keeping this fraud going?

A. -- Everything legally possible is being done. Per example this Web Page covering FAQ: THE AMERICAN WAR LIBRARY. Other veterans staying on AWL's case, the continuing spread of the word about AWL and Phill Coleman's antics through postings on the various news groups. Letting others know not to send AWL or Phill Coleman any information.

Thus far AWL has lost THREE (3) Internet Service Providers because of these activities and they were -- Earthlink.net, Primenet.com and Ni.net.

The various addresses used/are veterans@pacbell.net (current), veterans@earthlink.net, amerwar@earthlink.net, amerwar@primenet.com, and amerwar@ni.net. AWL still uses America On Line and has just started using Familyville.com, but only as a drop and does not involve them for fear of losing these ISP's where the bulk of AWLs Fishing Lure set-up is.

This is an ALERT NOTICE!!   It is suspected that Phill Coleman is currently using a NETCOM and an AOL Account to post things to the newsgroups under various "ALIASES".  He had the NETCOM account when he was posting articles using the Robert L. Odom name and he posted articles using the AOL account with the Brent Sadler name.  At one time he also had a NI.NET account and used the Dave Kobi name for that one, he also at one time used the Bill Haribata name on a PRODIGY.COM account.

Conclusion

In conclusion I have tried to provide the major reasons of why veterans and others on the various veterans news groups have a problem with AWL and Phill Coleman.

Last of all ask yourself these questions:

1. If it is FREE as AWL says, Then WHY DOES ONE HAVE TO ACCESS AWLs SITES VIA a MODEM, when other Individuals/Organizations Web Pages PROVIDING the same information are FREE VIA THE  INTERNET??

2. Why are so many veterans mocking and continuously making fun of the AWL? If the AWL was a Legitimate organization I, as well as you, know that this would not happen to the extent that is going on here.
