Logistics

  1. Supply
  2. Class I.  All Class I was drawn at Vandegrift in support of operations.  The Battalion Mess Hall served ‘R’ rations three times daily at Vandegrift.  At LZ’s Shepherd and Cates, Battalion field messes served at least one hot meal per day.
  3. Class II.  Battalion Supply moved from Dong Ha to Quang Tri with FLSG/B as the source of supply.  Class II supply tents remain at Vandegrift to cut the time lost in transfer of cargo from Quang Tri to Vandegrift.  Shortages in the following items were experienced during this period.
  4. Class III.  Adequate at Vandegrift.
  5. Class IV.  Adequate at Vandegrift.
  6. Class V.  Adequate at Vandegrift.
  7. Transportation
  8. Organic.  During this month the M-151A1, M-274A2 and the M-37B1 were used for resupply and administrative runs at Vandegrift and Quang Tri.  The 274A2 also was used at FSB’s Cates and Shepherd.
  9. Support.  Division Motor Transport arranged transportation of Class II supplies and personnel from Quang Tri to Vandegrift.  Division Embarkation coordinated several lifts of troops and supplies from Quang Tri to outlying bases.  3rd and 9th Transport Battalions supported the Battalion on a daily basis.
  10. Engineer Support.  Engineer Support Teams provided the Battalion with demolition capabilities.
