Medical/Dental Affairs
- The total number of patients treated at the Battalion Aid Station during the month of May was 535. Of these 87 were referred to Company A, 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Division for further treatment and 67 were admitted there for further treatment. There were 72 admissions to the Battalion Aid Station during the month. Dental referrals numbered 66.
- Prevalent and significant diseases encountered during the month were:
- Bronchitis – 14
- Diarrhea – 192
- Respiratory infection, acute – 22
- Gastroenteritis – 134
- Gonorrhea – 0
- Malaria – 27
- Emergency situations encountered this month were as follows:
- On 17 May, 2 KIA’s and 23 WIA’s were evacuated to Company A, 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Division for treatment and disposition.
- On 20 May, 5 KIA’s and 12 WIA’s were evacuated to Company A, 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Division for treatment and disposition.
- There were approximately 1200 inoculations administered during the month. Vaccines are currently on requisition which when received will enable the battalion’s immunization requirements to be made current.
- MedCAP activities were resumed in the CAC hamlets and 9 corpsmen were assigned to administer the treatment of the Vietnamese civilians.
- A continuing effort is being made to obtain refrigeration facilities at the Battalion Aid Station for the storage of biological for routine inoculations. However none had been obtained as yet.
