Medical/Dental Affairs

  1. The total number of patients treated at the Battalion Aid Station during the month of November 1966 was 684.
  2. Significant diseases encountered during the month were:

            These casualties were evacuated directly to ‘A’ Medical Company without prior treatment in the Battalion Aid Station.

  1. During the period 1 November to 4 November, the Medical Section of 1st Battalion 4th Marines detached its personnel and equipment from the 4th Marine Regimental Aid Station (‘E’ Medical Company) after being relieved by ‘D’ Medical Company, 3rd Medical Battalion.  Between 2 November and 4 November, the Medical Department moved with the rest of the Battalion from Dong Ha to Phu Bai utilizing aircraft and a truck convoy.
  2. Principal activities not directly related to the care of the sick included:
  3. Inventory, repair and updating of all equipment and supplies in preparation for embarkation to Okinawa.
  4. Administration of Plague vaccine and Gamma Globulin to all battalion personnel and the updating of all outstanding immunizations.
  5. Reorganization and updating of all health records.
  6. Establishment of a lecture series on pertinent medical subjects for corpsmen by the Battalion Medical Officer. The progress was further enlarged to include lectures by the corpsmen on the same subjects to the men under their care.
  7. There were 61 Dental consultations referred to ‘A’ Medical Company Dental Clinic.
  8. There were 167 laboratory procedures performed at the Battalion Aid Station during the month of November, these included 11 Malaria smears of which none were positive, 17 gram stains for Gonorrhea of which 8 were positive, 51 WBC’s, 42 Differentials, 41 Urinalyses and 5 miscellaneous.
