Logistics

  1. Logistical Situation.  During the reporting period 27-31 January 1967, the battalion moved from Camp Schwab, Okinawa, embarked aboard ARG shipping, and assumed duties with the Special Landing Force. The ships assigned were the USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2), and the USS Point Defiance (LSD-31).   The CP group, Headquarters and Service Company and two letter companies embarked aboard the USS Iwo Jima while a detachment for Headquarters and Service Company and the remaining two letter companies embarked aboard the USS Vancouver.  The SLF departed Okinawa at 0800 on 28 January 1967, bound for Keelung, Taiwan.
  2. Supply.
  3. Class I – Three MCI per individual were issued on 27 January 1967 for the embarkation period.  While embarked aboard shipping, three meals of Alpha rations were served daily.

  8. Evacuation and Hospitalization.  See Section IX
  9. Transportation.  Transportation was provided in abundance to execute and complete the embarkation of the battalion from Camp Schwab to White Beach, Okinawa.  However, during the initial stages of movement from Camp Schwab to White Beach, only four semi-trailers, stake, 12-ton, 4-wheel, were provided to move the Command Group, H&S Co., two letter companies and attachments with personal gear and line four items.  This caused an approximate five-hour delay in embarking.
  10. Services.  Movies were provided daily while embarked.  Further services available were the ships libraries, ships stores, and post office facilities.
