Operation Order 14-67

Ref:        (a)        Maps: Viet Nam, 1:50,000 AMS L7014, Sheets 6441 I and 6442 II

                (b)        1st Battalion 4th Marines COI

  1.          Situation.
  2.          Enemy forces.  Current Intsums
  3.          Friendly forces.

(1)               4th Marines continues present operations in conjunction with Operation Fremont and Liberty II.

(2)               1st MAW provides fixed wing and helicopter support.

(3)               3rd Bn 12th Marines provides artillery support as required.

(4)               3rd Bn 26th Marines provides security for Camp Evans and conducts aggressive small unit activities in assigned OA.

(5)               Company A conducts aggressive small unit activities and search and destroy operations in assigned OA.

(6)               Companies C and D provide security for bridges and culverts along assigned portions of National Route One.

  1. Mission.  Conduct aggressive patrolling and search and destroy operations in assigned OA in addition to reconnoitering the canyon (GS 9224*) and trail from YD 513254 to YD 506248 as possible avenues of approach in future operations to the Base Camp 114 area.

(1)               At 220830H commence tactical foot march from Camp Evans into assigned OA.

(2)               Conduct aggressive search and destroy operations while conducting a thorough reconnaissance of approach routes from Camp Evans to GS 5125 and 5225 with emphasis on possible stream crossings under adverse weather conditions.

(3)               At 230400H provide guides at road junction YD 505287 to lead companies into prearranged assembly areas.

(4)               By 240600H secure high ground at YD 519245, YD 514246 and YD 506247.

(5)               On order revert to Battalion reserve.

  1. Battalion Reserve

(1)               Company C

         (a)      30-minute alert status commencing 231000.

  1. Coordinating Instructions.

(1)               Adhere strictly to the rules of engagement.

(2)               Report by fastest means available all enemy contacts.

(3)               Caution friendly forces on mines and booby traps.

(4)               Submit day and night activities to Bn CP NLT 1200H the day prior.

(5)               Do not destroy captured food or medicine.  Report their location and await instructions.

(6)               Report POWs and detainees to Bn CP and await instructions.

(7)               Operations outside OA conducted only on approval this HQ.

(8)               Carry one 60’ rope per squad and one rubber air mattress per fire team.

(9)               Be prepared to submit a terrain sketch of OA upon completion of operation.

(10)             Ensure normal radio traffic maintained while Battalion moves to assemble area.

(11)             Carry two GS grenades per fire team and one block C-4 per individual.

(12)            Cross LOD 220830H.

(13)            Operation terminates on order this HQ.

  1.          Admin and Logistics.
  2.          Prescribed Load.  Four days Class I, III and V.
  3.          Resupply.  Emergency resupply requests to be submitted as soon as possible.
  4.          Uniform and Equipment.  As prescribed by the Company Commander.
  5.          Med Evac.  Helo evacuation in accordance with standard procedure.
  6.          Drinking Water.  Streams available in OA.  Ensure troops utilize halazone tablets.
  7.          Command and Communications/Electronics
  8.          Command Posts.  Report all CP locations when established.
  9.          Visual.   All platoons carry air panels and colored smoke.
  10.          Communications/Electronics

(1)               Guard 60.35 upon departure Camp Evans.

(2)               Alternate net 45.10.
