Summary – November 1967

 

Narrative Summary

The first four days of the reporting period the entire Battalion was still engaged in Operation Granite.  Operation Granite, Phase II consisted of a two-company blocking force during the period 4-6 November.

Upon completion of Operation Granite, the Battalion at Camp Evans was assigned an OA within the 4th Marines TAOR.  Squad, platoon, and Company size operations were conducted within the assigned OA and other areas as directed by the 4th Marines.

Operations of note included a Battalion size search of the Song Bo River area and its tributaries, a two Company search and destroy operation to exploit a sighting of 250-300 NVA, a one Company ambush patrol in OA to prevent VC/NVA from interdicting National Route One, a company size blocking force for a PF/RF sweep, a Battalion size search and destroy operation in the Phu Loc area, and two Company blocking force in the My Chanh area for an ARVN sweep.

From 280800H November 1967 thru the end of the month the entire Battalion participated in Operation Newton/Kentucky V.

At 131600H November 1967 Company C chopped OPCON to the 2nd Battalion 26th Marines and chopped OPCON back to the 1st Battalion 4th Marines on 211500H November 1967.  Companies B and D and the Bravo Command Group chopped OPCON to the 3rd Marine Division at 211800H November 1967.  At 251235H November 1967 the 1st Battalion (-) 4th Marines chopped OPCON from the 4th Marines to the 9th Marines.  Companies B and D and the Bravo Command Group chopped OPCON from the 3rd Marine Division to the 9th Marines at 271200H November 1967.
