Combat Missions Assigned

  1. Ninth Marines Operation Plan 2-68, of 22 January – Operation Kentucky
  2. At C-2 and C-2 Bridge (1 March – 8 March)
  3. Defend C-2 Forward Operating Base and C-2 Bridge.
  4. Continue construction and improvements of C-2 and C-2 Bridge in accordance with approved Dyemarker Plans.
  5. Protect LOC (Route #561) within AOR denying enemy opportunity to interdict LOC by mines and ambushes.
  6. Conduct anti-infiltration operations within assigned AOR.
  7. Provide Sparrow Hawk Reaction Force.
  8. Provide Rough Rider Reaction Force.
  9. At A-4 and Yankee Station (9 March – 31 March)
  10. Defend A-4 Strong Point Patrol Base.
  11. Continue construction and improvement of A-4 in accordance with approved Dyemarker Plans.
  12. Protect LOC (Route #561) within AOR, denying enemy opportunity to interdict LOC with mines or ambushes. Conduct daily mine sweeps from A-4 to C-2.
  13. Conduct anti-infiltration operations within AOR.  Stress extensive patrolling to southwest and east of A-4 and along Route #561.  (Ground attacks against enemy fortified lines north and west of A-4 will be initiated only upon direction of regiment.)
  14. Continually conduct preemptive/suppressive Counter Battery fires and air strikes against known and suspected enemy mortar/artillery/rocket positions and FO locations.  These preemptive fires will be in addition to immediate Counter Battery Fires conducted against active enemy gun and mortar positions and will include maximum use of organic weapons.
  15. Ninth Marines Frag Order-14 (Operation KENTUCKY)
  16. Commencing on D-Day, conduct a two Company search and destroy operation vicinity Phu Oc (YD 1469) with particular emphasis on preventing enemy infiltration to the south.
  17. On order on about D+1 be prepared to conduct similar operations vicinity An Phu/Lac Son (YD 1570 and YD 1670) for a period of approximately two days.
  18. On order, be prepared to reinforce A-3 or A-4.

  2. Effective 22 March 1968 assume responsibility of C-2 Bridge site vicinity YD 128672.
