At 0155H, OP#1 observed one secondary explosion during TOR at YD 090707.
At 0655H, Co. A Platoon patrol observed 4 NVA to their front at YD 118709. Patrol received a/w fire. Took NVA under fire with s/a, a/w and M-79. The patrol was reinforced with the rest of Co. A. Called 81mm and 4.2 mortar mission. AO on station called fixed wing on NVA along east-west road. Co. A element observed 25 NVA to the north approaching site of contact. Co. A elements found tunnel and command detonated mines facing A-4 outer wire. Casualties were retrieved and Co. A returned to perimeter. Artillery called on target. Action resulted in 4 Friendly WIA (3 evac and 1 non evac) and fourteen NVA KIA (5 by Co. A and 5 by air and 4 by arty).
At 0830H, OP#1 received one sniper round from YD 101701. Observation of area revealed 3 NVA in tree line. NVA were wearing green utilities with coolly hats. The OP received 2 more sniper rounds. Fired two 50 cal spotter rounds. Fired 106mm HEAT round. Several observers witnessed rounds impact directly on sniper. Fired three additional rounds to either side of enemy position. Observers saw one NVA flee northwest. NVA did not have weapon and was wearing a USMC flak jacket, helmet, and gas mask worn on back of flak jacket. NVA disappeared in the thick brush. One NVA KIA (confirmed).
At 1020H, while firing an artillery mission in support of 1/4, 4th Bn 12th Marines made a 200-mil deflection error. Three rounds impacted in the perimeter. Called for immediate check fire. Two friendly KIA (NBC) and one WIA (NBC).
At 1020H, OP#1 observed 5 NVA in the open at YD 104742. NVA were wearing helmets and khaki uniforms. Fired six rounds 106mm RR and 61 rounds 81mm mortar. Observers saw one NVA blown in air. One NVA KIA (confirmed).
2 May
At 0540H, A-4 received 14 rounds estimated 82mm mortar between 0540H and 0620H. Fired 105mm arty mission, 81mm mortar and dusters on following coordinates, YD 133714, YD 124716 and YD 130727. Also fired counter mortar in Sector 1. Two friendly WIA (emergency) and one routine, resulted from incoming. The emergency medevac later died of wounds.
At 0735H, Co. B road sweep received s/a fire from approximately 4-5 NVA at YD 128675. Took NVA under fire with s/a and tanks. Reinforced road sweep with Co. C Platoon with Co. Command Group and 3 additional tanks. Called 81mm mortar mission with good coverage. Units in contact swept area with negative findings. One USMC WIA (minor).
At 0835H, OP#1 observed 3-4 NVA at YD 096712 and YD 095710. Fired 81mm mortar mission and 4.2 mortar mission with good coverage.
At 1017H, A-4 received one round 82mm outside perimeter. Continued firing counter mortar mission.
At 1125H, A-4 received 3 rounds 82mm. Fired 4.2 mortar mission on YD 13297248 with excellent coverage.
At 1128H, A-4 received 1 round 82mm mortar. AO on station checked area with negative results. Fired counter mortar mission when AO was clear.
At 1130H, AO on station observed 2 NVA at YD 103705. AO observed freshly dug fighting holes in area. Fired 81mm mission with good target coverage.
At 1330H, Snipers with Co. D observed 3 NVA as the enemy moved when a WP round impacted near their position. NVA were wearing green utilities and 2 carried AK-47’s. Snipers took NVA under fire, killing two. Other NVA fled. Two NVA KIA (confirmed).
At 1520H, A-4 received 10-12 rounds of unknown cal. high velocity arty. Several of the incoming rounds were VT air bursts. Fired arty mission on YD 164776.
At 2358H, Perimeter and OPs observed 3 large explosions on outer wire. One to NE, one to North and one to NW. No enemy movement was observed. At 0015H, A-4 began to receive incoming estimated 82mm mortar and 85mm arty. From then until 0043H, 19 rounds impacted in and around perimeter. Fired 4.2 counter mortar mission. Came to 100% alert.
3 May
At 0905H, OP#1 received one round sniper fire. Round hit upper bunker. Fired 60mm mortar mission on YD 106708. Excellent coverage of target results unknown.
At 1011H, A-4 received six rounds 60mm and 82mm mortar rounds. Incoming was sporadic, spread over every 30 minutes or hour. Fired Counter Mortar Fire on YD 133733 and YD 126722.
At 1245H, OP#2 received two 60mm rounds. Fired 81mm mortar mission and 106mm RR mission. Excellent coverage of target.
At 1500H, and until 1555H, A-4 received 4 rounds 60mm, seven rounds 82mm and five rounds of 122mm rockets. Fired arty mission on YD 050665 and YD 102723. Good target coverage results unknown.
At 2145H, Troops on Co. A lines heard movement. Fired 81mm mortar mission on YD 120713. Observed secondary explosion.
4 May
At 0830H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds in OP#2 area. Fired 4.2 mortar mission with unknown results.
At 1015H, while receiving 2-4 rounds unknown type arty incoming, personnel at A-4 observed delta wing aircraft roll in from the north. Aircraft fired 2-6 rockets/missiles, one impacting near the CMR and later identified as a Shrike missile. Witnesses also reported hearing rapid firing from aircraft. Three other missiles impacted in minefield to the SW. Fired 4.2 mortar mission and arty missions on suspected emplacements of enemy arty at YD 087706 and YD 093642. One friendly KIA and 4 WIA resulted from missile.
At 1235H, A-4 received six unknown type rockets from a direction of 5600 mills. OP’s observed flashes from YD 065663. Fired arty mission on suspected enemy position.
At 1340H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar round in southern portion of perimeter. At approximately the same time, OP#3 received one sniper round. Fired 81mm mission on suspected mortar position at YD 099870.
At 1416H, A-4 received two rounds 82mm mortar from unknown direction and range.
At 1610H, C-2 Bridge received one round estimated 152mm arty from YD 064668. Round impacted in southern portion of perimeter. Fired arty mission on enemy position.
At 1705H, A-4 received six 82mm rounds which impacted in the northern and center portions of the perimeter. Fired arty mission on enemy position at YD 083702.
5 May
At 0307H, Co. A received four 82mm mortar rounds. Fired 81mm and 4.2 mortar mission with good target coverage. Results unknown.
At 0922H, A-4 received four rounds 82mm mortar from YD 137728. Fired 4.2 mortar mission on enemy position.
At 1000H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar round. Fired counter mortar mission on YD 096703.
At 1210H, A-4 received three 82mm mortar rounds. Fired 81mm mortar mission on YD 116715.
AT 1315H, A-4 received three rounds 82mm mortar from YD 123716. Fired 4.2 and 81mm mortar missions on enemy positions. One friendly WIA (evac).
At 1400H, C-2 Bridge received six rounds of estimated 122mm rockets. At about the same time, Yankee Station received four rounds estimated 100mm arty or larger. Fired arty missions on enemy positions at YD 064742 and YD 093723. Friendly casualties sustained: 1 WIA (evac), 3 WIA (minor)
6 May
At 1215H, Co. D OP/ambush observed six NVA at YD 106679. The NVA were moving towards A-4. Two NVA carried AK-47’s and something attached to their waists. OP/ambush was unable to fire due to orientating but reorientated themselves and took three NVA under fire. A quick check of area produced negative results. Ambush returned to perimeter.
At 0400H, Personnel on Co. A lines observed two explosions 150 meters outside of Co. A CP. Checked area at first light with negative results.
At 0920H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds. Co. A observed 82mm being fired and movement in brush at YD 100703. Fired 81mm mortar mission on enemy position with good target coverage. Two USMC WIA (minor).
At 1130H, and occurring since 1000H, A-4 received nine 82mm mortar rounds. Fired arty mission on YD 098701.
At 1115H, OP at C-2 Bridge observed flashes at YD 055655 at the same time C-2 was receiving incoming rockets. Fired arty mission on enemy position.
At 1145H, Co. A OP observed recoilless rifle at YD 096707. Rifle was heavily camouflaged. Fired arty mission on enemy position.
At 1154H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds. Continued counter mortar.
At 1230H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds from unknown direction and range.
At 1405H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds from YD 1028072090. Fired arty and 81mm mortar mission on enemy position.
At 1545H, A-4 received eight rounds estimated 130mm arty from YD 123780. Fired arty mission on enemy position. One USMC KIA and one USMC WIA (evac).
At 1640H, A-4 received three 82mm mortar rounds from YD 134717. Fired arty mission.
At 2245H, OP#1 observed 10-12 NVA moving from tree line toward outer defensive wire. NVA were moving by two’s and three’s. Fired 4.2 mortar mission of approximately 40 rounds. Observed two NVA KIA, confirmed by Co. D through NOD.
7 May
At 0800H, OP#2 spotted seven NVA in the open at YD 165784. Fired arty mission on enemy position.
At 0801H, A-4 received three 82mm mortar rounds. Fired arty mission on YD 138719.
At 0927H, A-4 received two rounds of VT outside perimeter. Apparent propaganda leaflets were dropped from the VT. Leaflets were too far out to pick up. OP#1 received one round sniper fire. A-4 also received three rounds estimated 100mm to 120mm arty. Fired suppressive fires on YD 06067534, YD 12217834 and YD 11947963. One WIA (evac).
At 1013H, A-4 received six 82mm mortar rounds from YD 13887198. Fired arty missions on enemy positions.
At 1100H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds. Fired 81mm mortar mission on YD 127728.

At 2035H, OP#1 spotted five NVA in the open at YD 102669. Fired 4.2 mortar mission with excellent target coverage.
At 2355H, OP#1 observed five NVA 100 meters outside wire to west. Fired M-79 with unknown results.
8 May
At 0445H, Co. A OP/ambush, while moving into position at YD 121706 made contact with an estimated NVA squad. Returned fire with s/a and M-26 grenades. Broke contact and returned to perimeter. One USMC WIA (minor). Two NVA KIA (confirmed). Captured one AK-51.
At 0815H, A-4 received two rounds of 82mm mortar from YD 102700. Fired 106’s on enemy position.
At 1000H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar and 17 light arty rounds. Fired arty missions on YD 0808075920, YD 0828075590, YD 135795, YD 125755, YD 145085 and YD 148792.
At 1630H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar round. Fired 81mm mortar and arty missions.
9 May
At 0205H, OP#1 observed four NVA in the open at YD 10626869. Fired 4.2 mortar mission, excellent coverage of target. Estimated two NVA KIA, observed on NVA carried off, other was dragged off.
At 0831H, A-4 received two 60mm mortar rounds from YD 095703. Fired 4.2 mortar mission on enemy position with good target coverage.
At 1115H, Co. A OP observed three NVA at YD 122720. Snipers took NVA under fire, killing one. Called 60mm mission. OP returned to perimeter.
At 1135H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds from YD 127713. Fired 81mm mortar mission on enemy position.
At 1350H, OP#3, while adjusting arty mission on suspected rocket position, reported two secondary explosions.
At 1345H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar round from unknown direction and range.
From 1750-1820H, A-4 received two rounds of estimated rockets from YD 095616 and 065664 and 11 rounds from estimated recoilless rifle at YD 100715. All rounds were received during above time span. Fired counter arty mission on enemy positions with excellent target coverage.
At 1920H, Fired 81mm mortar mission on suspected mortar position and observed secondary explosion at YD 118719.
10 May
At 0100H, Personnel on Co. A lines and OP’s #2 and #3 observed explosion along outer wire to the northeast. Utilized NODs to check out area, negative results.
Between 0547H and 0645H, A-4 received 29 arty rounds two estimated rockets and two air bursts that appeared to drop leaflets that fell outside perimeter. Fired counter battery mission on YD 14498009, YD 12708083, and YD 131751. Three USMC WIA (minor).
At 0940H, OP#1 observed two NVA at YD 098707. Fired 4.2 mortar mission with good target coverage. Results unknown.
At 1640H, A-4 received seven rounds of estimated 82mm mortar. Fired 81mm mortar mission, 4.2 mortar mission and arty mission on enemy positions at YD 083704, YD 102703 and YD 099702.
At 2230H, OP#1 observed one NVA in the open with NOD. Sniper took NVA under fire with M-14 utilizing a starlight scope. Observers saw NVA knocked down by impact of bullet. Fired 4.2 mission on target YD 105705. One NVA KIA (confirmed).
At 2245H, Personnel on lines observed four NVA. Co. C lines took NVA under fire with s/a. Movement ceased.
11 May
At 0005H, Personnel observed five NVA with NOD at YD 105705. Sniper using M-14 with Starlight Scope, took NVA under fire. Observers saw two NVA fall, and others apparently try to drag them away. Two NVA KIA (confirmed).
At 0740H, OP#1 took one round of sniper fire from unknown direction and range. One USMC WIA (evac).
At 1150H, OP#1 received two rounds of estimated 82mm mortar from YD 097705. Fired 81mm mortar mission on enemy position. Good target coverage.
At 1350H, MajGen Thompkins and MajGen Davis arrived at A-4 and departed approximately 40 minutes later.
At 1705H, A-4 received two rounds 82mm mortar. Fired 81mm mortar mission on YD 100730 and YD 102692.
12 May
At 0720H, Co. D found one dead NVA who appeared to have been killed by mortars or arty approximately 2 to 3 weeks ago. NVA was not wearing clothing. One NVA KIA (confirmed).
At 1040H, A-4 received three 82mm mortar rounds from direction of 5000 mills. Fired counter mortar mission.
At 1244H, Yankee Station received two estimated 100mm arty rounds while A-4 received four rounds of 82mm mortar. Fired 4.2 mortar mission on enemy position at YD 123717. Good target coverage.
At 1315H, OP#2, while firing 106’s, 81mm mortar and tank mission on active enemy mortar position, reported one secondary explosion.
13 May
At 0842H, A-4 received three rounds of 82mm mortar. Fired arty and 81mm mortar mission on enemy position at YD 124719 and YD 083704. Excellent coverage of target.
At 0950H, A-4 received six 82mm mortar rounds. Fired 81mm mortar and 4.2 mortar missions on enemy positions at YD 101712, YD 08327042 and YD 12417191.
At 1300H, Co. C discovered bunker complex at YD 124662. Approximately 19 bunkers were found in the area. Destroyed bunkers.
At 1515H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar rounds from unknown direction and range.
14 May
At 0500H, Co. A departed perimeter for operation in accordance with Ninth Marines Frag Order 22-68.
At 0845H, OP#1 received two sniper rounds. Fired 81mm mortar mission on enemy position at YD 103702. Excellent coverage of target.
At 1100H, AO spotted two NVA in the open at YD 126728. Called in 81mm mortar mission on enemy position. One NVA KIA (confirmed by AO).

At 0955H, OP#3 observed smoke at YD 046656 at same time C-2 was receiving incoming rockets. Fired arty mission on enemy position.
At 1330H, OP#2 observed 4-5 NVA with pack animals at YD 120750. Fired firecracker arty mission on NVA with good coverage.
At 1445H, A-4 received four 82mm mortars from YD 125725. Fired arty mission on enemy position.

16 May

17 May
At 0643H, OP#2 observed four NVA in the open at YD 127793. Fired arty mission with good target coverage.
At 0735H, A-4 received three 82mm mortar rounds. AO on station checked out area with negative results.
At 0815H, 2nd Plt, Co. B, 1/9 chopped OPCON from 1/9 to 1/4 at C-2 Bridge at 170815H.
At 0915H, A-4 received three 82mm mortar rounds from unknown direction and range.
At 1050H, A-4 received nine 82mm mortar rounds from YD 14307202. Fired 105mm arty mission on enemy position. Good target coverage. One USMC WIA (evac).
At 1640H, Co. C squad OP at YD 137671 observed four NVA in open at YD 142665. Co. C fired 60mm mortar mission of 25 rounds. Checked area with negative results.
At 1820H, Co. A received four sniper rounds from unknown direction. Negative casualties.
At 1930H, OP#3 observed ten NVA in the open at YD 173683. Fired arty mission with good coverage of target.
At 2200H, Co. A squad ambush, at YD 123704, observed three NVA. Took enemy under fire with s/a, observing two NVA fall and one run. Checked area and found one NVA KIA confirmed. Recovered one AK-47.
At 2320H, OP#2 observed two NVA moving northeast over ridge line. Fired 4.2 mortar mission and 81mm mortar mission with good target coverage.
18 May
At 0115H, A-4 received seven 82mm mortar rounds from YD 08327042 and YD 101720. Fired arty and 81mm mortar missions with good target coverage.
At 1030H, Co. A Squad, checking area of last nights’ ambush contact, found large pool of blood. Followed trail of blood and discovered one NVA in spider trap, Killed NVA with s/a, NVA was wearing green utilities. NVA had bandage over a wound in his thigh. Captured 7.62 PPS submachine gun. One NVA KIA (confirmed).
At 1056H, A-4 received three 82mm mortar rounds from unknown direction and range. Negative casualties or damage.
At 1130H, Platoon of Co. B, 1/9 chopped OPCON from 1/4 to 1/9 at 181130H.
19 May
At 0900H, Co. D received one sniper round. Approximately five minutes later, OP#2 received 4-5 sniper rounds. Approximately 20 minutes later, Co. D lines received one more sniper round. Fired arty and 81mm mortar missions on suspected enemy position at YD 104708.
At 1001H, A-4 received one sniper round. Fired 81mm mortar mission on suspected enemy position at YD 104708.
At 1027H, Co. D Platoon patrol made contact with an estimated 10-15 NVA. Enemy forces were later increased to 50-60 by AO count. The Co. D patrol received heavy automatic weapons and small arms fire. NVA had at least one .50 cal machine gun and two .30 cal machine guns. Reinforced Co. D platoon with the remainder of Co. D at 1125H. The Co D elements linked up and assumed defensive perimeter. At 1330H, committed Co. B (-) the Bn CP Group and five tanks. Elements moved along the southern edge of the trace and attempted to sweep the area of contact. Terrain, the approach of darkness and evidence that NVA had fled east were factors that decided the discontinuance of the sweep. A debrief of troops resulted in nine NVA (confirmed). During the afternoon, AO on station ran two flights of fixed wing armed with snakes and napalm. Friendly casualties resulted in one emergency WIA evac (later DOW), 1 routine WIA evac, 3 WIA minor, and seven NBC evac (heat). Two NVA KIA by arty, five NVA KIA by air and nine NVA KIA by troops for a total of 16 NVA KIA (confirmed).
At 1250H, OP#1 received seven sniper rounds from YD 100693. Fired 81mm mortar mission on enemy position.
At 1325H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar rounds from unknown direction and range.
At 1705H, Co. D and Co. B at YD 142700 received four rounds of 82mm mortar from YD 135718, YD 139713, YD 155721 and YD 136714. Fired arty and 81mm mortar missions on enemy positions. Excellent target coverage.
At 1720H, Co. B observed 5-6 NVA in the open at YD 155695. Fired arty mission with excellent target coverage.
At 1820H, A-4 received two rockets from YD 165665 and YD 055668. Fired arty mission and tank with excellent target coverage.
At 2300H, C-2 Bridge received ten rounds of 82mm mortar from unknown direction and range.
20 May
At 0905H, OP#1 received one sniper round from YD 101701. Fired 81mm mortar mission on enemy position.
At 1110H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds from unknown direction and range. Two USMC WIA (minor).
At 1310H, Co. A sniper OP at YD 121711 observed one NVA at YD 116713. Sniper took NVA under fire with negative results. Fired 81mm mortar mission with good target coverage.
At 1610H, OP#1 received one sniper round from YD 104669. Fired 81mm mortar mission on enemy position.
21 May
At 0030H, Dog with Co. B squad patrol alerted. Observed six NVA using small light. Took NVA under fire. Observed one NVA fall, and others moved into bush. While moving up to check out area, dog alerted again indicating that search party was being flanked. Patrol opened fire and heard sounds of persons rushing through bushes. Patrol pulled back 500 meters. Called in 60mm mortar missions of 40 rounds HE. Patrol returned to perimeter.
At 0215H, OP#1 using NOD, observed four NVA at YD 111699. Deployed platoon ambush and swept area with negative results. Platoon resumed mission.
At 0940H, Co. D Patrol, at YD 104684, observed one NVA moving into tree line at YD 088689. Fired 105mm and 81mm mortar mission with good target coverage.
At 1130H, AO on station observed two NVA at YD 11157084. Fired 81mm mortar mission and ran two flights of fixed wing. Air strikes destroyed three stone bunkers and damaged one regular earth bunker. Air also had one NVA KBA (confirmed).
At 1355H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar round from YD 149707. Fired arty mission on enemy position.
At 1455H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar round from YD 126724. Performed crater analysis and fired 81mm mortar mission on enemy position.
At 1716H, OP#3 observed six NVA in open at YD 183685. Fired arty mission with unknown results.
At 1720H, A-4 received one 82mm mortar round from unknown direction and range.
At 1757H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds from YD 142722. Fired arty mission, results unknown.
At 1905H, OP#3 observed three NVA in open at YD 143707. Fired arty mission using firecracker rounds. Good target coverage.
22 May
At 0840H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds from YD 108717, and YD 100717. Fired 4.2 mortar mission and 81mm mortar mission on enemy positions.
At 0950H, A-4 received four 82mm mortar rounds from YD 135715 and YD 137723. Fired arty and 81mm mortar missions on enemy positions.
At 1130H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds from YD 132715. Fired 81mm mortar mission on enemy position.
At 1201H, Co. B receive two rockets while assembling outside gate. Fired arty mission on enemy position at YD 055665.

At 2220H, Co. C lines, at C-2 Bridge, received s/a fire from estimated squad of NVA moving along tree line to NW. Returned s/a fire and 60mm mortar mission with good coverage. Lost sight of NVA and alerted Yankee Station.
At 2230H, Co. C Plt, at Yankee Station, observed four NVA to west. LP returned to perimeter after taking NVA under fire with s/a. Fired 60mm mortar mission. LP returned to position.
23 May
At 0800H, (see Narrative Summary).
At 0830H, Personnel on lines at Yankee Station observed one Vietnamese approaching perimeter. Subject was waving a white parachute over his head. He was wearing U.S. boots, green utility trousers and no shirt. Subject claimed to be an ARVN soldier who had been captured and used on work detains until his escape from the NVA. Transported subject to Ninth Marines S-2.
At 0945H, Co. H/2/26 wire check received one 82mm mortar round from unknown location. Moved out of impact area and continued mission. One USMC WIA routine evac.

At 1645H, OP#2 observed 15 NVA in trench line at YD 12707371. NVA appeared to be setting up some type of weapon. Fired arty, tanks and 81mm mortar mission with good target coverage. Results unknown.
At 1736H, A-4 received two 82mm mortar rounds from unknown direction and range.
AT 1740H, OP#3 observed two NVA at YD 131713. NVA appeared to be dragging a body. One NVA had a weapon. Fired 81mm mortar mission with excellent target coverage.
24 May
At 0946H, OP#2 observed 15-20 NVA. Fired 81mm mortar and arty missions with excellent coverage.
At 1245H, OP on lines observed two NVA moving from west to east in tree line at YD 123719. Fired six rounds 81mm mortar before mission was put in a check fire by Ninth Marines due to an air strike in the 1471 grid.
At 1618H, OP#2 observed 12 NVA running from south to north at YD 12217346. Fired 4.2 mortar and arty missions with good target coverage.
At 1620H, after arriving at 1550H, MajGen Davis, CG 3rd MarDiv, and party departed A-4.
At 1935H, OP#2 observed two NVA running towards gully and trench line at YD 12217346. NVA were wearing packs and carrying weapons. Fired 4.2 HE and three arty batteries with firecracker rounds. Fired illumination for surveillance and battery zone and shift fire mission of 170 rounds. Good coverage of target area. Results unknown.
25 May
At 0700H, OP#2 observed 20 NVA moving towards trench line at YD 12217346. At approximately 0915H, observed approximately the same number of NVA in same area. NVA were traveling in small groups and carrying packs and rifles. NVA were moving in a southwest direction. Fired arty, tanks and dusters with excellent target coverage. Arty fired firecracker and VT.
At 1140H, Co. A, D and Bn Cmd Group commenced return to A-4.
At 1200H, A-4 received volley of three rockets. Approximately three minutes later, received another volley of six rockets. Approximately 1240H, received another volley of four rockets. Fired arty mission on enemy positions at YD 065665, YD 055665, YD 049668, YD 034676. Incoming resulted in two WIA routine med-evacs.
At 1345H, all 1/4 elements returned to A-4.
At 1650H, Co. B chopped OPCON to 4th Marines and departed Yankee Station for Camp Carroll.
At 1735H, OP#2 observed two NVA enter a bunker at YD 12217346. Fired arty and 4.2 mortar mission with excellent coverage. Results unknown.
At 1930H, OP#3 observed 10-20 NVA moving into tree line at YD 154723. NVA were wearing packs and carried rifles. Fired arty, 81’s and 4.2 mortar missions with excellent coverage of target. Arty fired firecracker mission. Movement ceased. Fired illum for surveillance with negative results.
26 May
At 0625H, OP#2 observed two NVA in open at YD 12217346. Fired firecracker mission with good target coverage.
At 0750H, OP#2 observed five NVA moving from north to south at YD 11937393. Fired firecracker mission with good coverage of target area.
At 1150H, Yankee Station received nine rounds of unknown caliber arty. Fired arty missions on enemy positions at YD 039658, YD 068674 and YD 052667. Good target coverage. Results unknown.
At 1300H, Co. D departed A-4 enroute to Rockpile.
At 1600H, Co. D arrived Rockpile.
At 1700H, Co. A helo troop lift from A-4 to Rockpile commenced. One platoon lifted to Camp Carroll.
At 1810H, OP#2 observed twenty NVA in open at YD 119739. Fired firecracker arty mission with excellent target coverage.
At 1830H, Co. A (-) troop lift to Rockpile by helicopter completed.
At 1940H, OP#2 observed 10 NVA in open at YD 12217346.
27 May
At 1500H, 1/4 chopped to 4th Marines assuming responsibility of defense of Camp Carroll. 2/26 assumed defense of A-4.
At 1600H, Co. C departed C-2 enroute for deployment along Rt #9 by 4th Marines.
29 May
At 0750H, Co. B road sweep was hit by command detonated mine. Checked area with negative results. Med-evaced three USMC WIA (all priority) and one USMC KIA. Continued mission.
At 0815H, Co. C patrol apprehended one Vietnamese female who had no identification card. Subject was taken to District Headquarter for interrogation.
At 0940H, Co. C patrol received six rounds s/a. Observed two NVA in open at YD 081580. NVA were wearing black clothes and carried weapons. Enemy were moving in a northerly direction. Fired 81mm mortar mission. During mission, observed approximately 11 more enemy flee in northerly direction from YD 081586.
30 May
At 0630H, Co. C at YD 073573, received six rounds of 82mm mortar from approximately YD 065589.
At 1730H, Chopped 1/4 Bravo Command Group to 4th Marines at 301730H. Command Group departed for Rockpile.
31 May
At 0035H, Co. C at YD 089578, received two rounds of 82mm from 1600 mills, approximately 1000 meters (YD 092578). At same time, Co. C received s/a fire from same azimuth and approximately 300 meters out from friendly position. S/A continued for approximately 20 minutes. Received s/a from closer range and sighted two enemy. Took enemy under fire with s/a, enemy fled to resettlement village east of position.
At 0900, Co. C platoon observed three enemy carrying rifles north of river. Fired twelve 81mm mortar rounds. Enemy fled northwest.
