Fire Support

  1. Artillery support during the month was excellent.  The use of artillery was well coordinated with troop movement.  On several occasions close artillery fires were used to screen and cover the tactical movement of troops.
  2. Coordination with air was greatly improved due to closer contacts between FAC and FSCC personnel.
  3. During the month, artillery was credited with one confirmed NVA KIA and destroyed six bunkers, one mortar position, one .50 cal position, 10 fighting holes and 20 meters of trenchline.
  4. The following missions were fired in support of the Battalion during the reporting period:

  6. Observed fires – 194
  7. Unobserved fires – 15
  8. Counter Btry/Mortar – 10
  9. Illumination – 7
