A. Enemy
1. The 1st Bn 4th Marines participated in the Canton II of Operation Scotland during the reporting period. The Battalion returned again to the Hill 715 complex (XD 944476) and extensive patrolling was done in the area. The NVA continued to use their delaying tactics by use of command detonated mines. It appeared the delaying action was due to enemy supply caches not yet extracted by the NVA. The largest cache was discovered on the 2nd and 3rd of August for a total of 16,000 pounds of rice in the vicinity of XD 923487. The patrol also discovered two surgical bunkers with extensive medical gear. The captured caches were evacuated. The Battalion conducted a helicopter assault on Hill 505 in vicinity of XD 904476 with signs of little enemy activity. The Battalion conducted a helicopter assault in the Vicinity of XD 898347 with an unopposed landing. The area was extensively patrolled which revealed recent enemy activity. The NVA appeared to have had their women with them as curlers and hairnets were found in the area. Company C made contact with approximately a squad of NVA in green utilities in the vicinity of XD 878358. The enemy continues to use early morning hours for his assaults.
