Personnel and Administration
- General. During the reporting period, the Battalion’s administrative section moved from Dong Ha Combat Base to Quang Tri Combat Base. Admin functions were interrupted for a period of approximately 48 hours and are at present hampered somewhat by lack of communications with higher Headquarters and units in the field. However, this situation is rapidly being rectified and no lasting problems are expected.

- Morale. Morale continued to be high. Out of Country R&R quotas utilized for the month were: Bangkok –16, Hawaii –15, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur – 2, Manila – 2, Penang –3, Singapore – 3, Okinawa – 4, Sydney – 9, Taipei – 11, Tokyo – 6. During the month 49 Lance Corporals were promoted to Corporal, 10 Privates First Class were promoted to Lance Corporal and 17 Privates were promoted to Private First Class. Three Corporals were meritoriously promoted to Sergeant during the reporting period.
- Religious Services. Spiritual coverage was provided for the Battalion during the month of September in the field and at Vandegrift. A total of 18 Protestant Services were conducted by the Battalion Chaplain with a total attendance of 552 and 83 taking communion. Six Catholic Masses were given by Chaplain Hubble of 4th Marines with a total attendance of 296. Two Memorial Services were conducted by the Battalion Chaplain with 79 attending. The rear area at Dong Ha was covered by Chaplains from the 3rd MarDiv Office. Two men of the Jewish Faith went to Da Nang for High Holy days. One group discussion, numerous counseling cases, letters to families and notifying servicemen of casualties in their families were accomplished during the period.
