  1. The total number of visits to the Battalion Aid Stations during the month of November was 1,670.
  2. Prevalent medical entities encountered were:
  3. Gonorrhea – 5
  4. Diarrhea – 51
  5. Malaria – 11
  6. URI – 5
  7. NP Disorders – 6
  8. Rat Bites – 2
  9. FUO – 35
  10. Dermatological conditions – 286
  11. Heat casualties – 0
  12. NSU – 1
  13. All suspected and confirmed cases of venereal disease were given an STS in accordance with MANMED 22-18 and the results entered in the individual’s health record.
  14. A total of 92 patients were referred to 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Division (Rein), FMF.  Of those referred the following were consults:
  15. Dental –31
  16. Ophthalmology – 1
  17. ENT – 2
  18. Urology – 6
  19. Internal medicine – 45
  20. Surgical – 4
  21. Proctology – 3
  22. Patients requiring further consultation were referred from to 3rd Medical Battalion to the following medical facilities:
  23. NSA, DaNang – 4
  24. USS Sanctuary – 10
  25. USS Repose – 11
  26. 6th Conv. Cen. – 11
  27. 22nd CST – 3
  28. The following is a breakdown of casualties encountered for the month:

  34. NBC – 83
  35. Weekly malaria prophylaxis was continued with the use of Chlorequin-Primaquine tablets in the Battalion rear.  Daily malaria prophylaxis was continued with the use of Dapsone in conjunction with weekly use of Chloroquin-Primaquines in Battalion forward areas.  Personnel from forward areas in the rear were mustered daily and given Dapsone.
  36. Sanitation inspections were held daily and weekly in accordance with Art. P6000.4D in the Battalion area (Vandegrift Combat Base and Quang Tri).  Sanitary facilities at the present time are considered adequate.
  37. Two Battalion Aid Stations were maintained during the month of November.  A Forward BAS consisting of a Battalion Surgeon and eight Hospital Corpsmen located at Vandegrift Combat Base and a secondary BAS located at Quang Tri consisting of ten Hospital corpsmen.  All injuries and maladies encountered were treated by the line company corpsmen and when required casualties were transferred for further treatment.  No serious delays were encountered in resupply or evacuation during this period.
  38. Forward echelons of H&S, Bravo and Delta Companies received smallpox, cholera, Gamma Globins and plague which accounted for 1054 immunizations.  Personnel rotating to CONUS and departing on R&R received 173.
