Communications
- Message Center. This section provides the shackle sheets and the brevity codes for the Command and its attachments. Classified and non-classified message handling is exercised. A forward Message Center is operating at VCB. The Rear Message Center at Quang Tri is responsible for the delivery of the Read Board to the Battalion Commander.
- Radio. The radio section continues its mission of maintaining communications with all elements through the use of radio relay at Dong Ha Mountain manned by two radio personnel. Spare parts and batteries are supplied to attached units when required. Log periodic antennas and now available and are being used extensively in the field for long distance static employment.
- Covered Circuit. The KY-38 and PRC-77 has been used extensively during the month of December.
- The wire section is maintaining two switchboards, one forward and one in the Battalion rear. The switchboards are maintained wherever the situation requires their use. A field wire system is normally employed when the Battalion Command Group is in the field.
- Electronics Repair. The electronics section continues to provide second echelon repair in the support of the Command, and it’s attached units while deployed in a static position.
- Radio Relay. The radio relay was not used during the month of December.
- Critical Shortages. A shortages of repair parts for the radio set AN/PRC-25 still exists. Most critical at this time is A-9 and A-10 modules. The An/PRC-77, although a special T.E. allowance item and on order has not been received. The Battalion makes use of borrowed AN/PRC-77. At present this Battalion has one on temporary loan.
