1 February
At 0830H, Company K (-) trucked to Ca Lu to relieve Co. C (-), 1st Bn 9th Marines.
At 0910 Company B spotted one NVA in tiger uniform, with no weapon or pack. Fired 60mm mortars and checked area with negative results.
At 1130H Effective 011130H Company K (-), 3rd Bn 4th Marines chopped OPCON to 1st Bn 4th Marines, Company C (-), 1st Bn 9th Marines dropped OPCON to Task Force Hotel.
2 February
At 1530H, 1st Bn 4th Marines dropped OPCON Company D/1/9 to Task Force Hotel (Ref: 030330H).
At 1530H 1st Bn 4th Marines assumed OPCON Company L/3/4 (Ref: 021555H).
3 February
At 1000H, Company C/1/4 spotted 6 ARVN 100 meters in front of lines at grid XD 989491. ARVNs were taking fuses from M-26’s and throwing in the stream to kill fish. ARVNs ran to their area when a patrol approached. Contacted ARVN liaison to rectify situation.
At 1040H, Company K/3/4 patrol at Grid XD003461 found a well-used trail 3’ wide. Found fighting holes 2’x3’x4’, 30 in all in a horseshoe. Patrol set in and checked area further, trail runs north and south.
At 1525H, Company D/1/4, 1st Plt was inserted as reaction force at Grid XD 033699. Dropped OPCON to 2nd Bn 4th Marines (Ref; 031550H).
At 1530H, Company K/3/4 at Grid XD 001454 set up in a patrol base one NVA walked upon rear security. Blindfolded searched and turn over to 4th Marines, ITT Team. Had following gear, 200 ft of cord, mosquito net, hammock, sleeping bag, flashlight, 2 Chi-com grenades, 4 lbs. of rice, assorted clothing, toilet articles, 1 bottle hydrochloride, 5cc mercurochrome, 1hypodermic needle, 3–22-gauge needles, 20-1-gauge needles, 12 vials vitamin B-12, 1 bottle vitamin B-1, 1 bottle of kerosene, 12 oz. Marijuana, 4 oz. Opium, numerous documents.
