Medical and Dental Affairs

  1. The total number of visits to the Battalion Aid Station during the month of April was 1334.

  14. All suspected and confirmed cases of venereal diseases were given an STS in accordance with MANMED 22-18 and the results entered in the individuals’ health record.
  15. A total of 195 patients were referred to 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Division (Rein) FMF.  Of these referred, the following were consults

  28. The following is a breakdown of casualties encountered for the month

  35. Weekly malaria prophylaxis was continued with the use of Chloroquine-Primaquine tablets in the Battalion rear area.  Daily malaria prophylaxis was continued with use of Dapsone in conjunction with weekly use of chloroquine-Primaquine in Battalion forward area.
  36. Sanitation inspection was held daily, and weekly in accordance with Art. P6000.4D in the Battalion area (Vandegrift Combat Base and Quang Tri).  Sanitary facilities, at present are considered highly satisfactory.
  37. Two Battalion Aid Stations were maintained during the month of April.  At forward BAS consisting of a Battalion Surgeon and eleven Hospital Corpsmen located at Vandegrift Combat Base and a secondary BAS located at Quang Tri, consisting of ten Hospital Corpsmen.  All injuries and Malaria encountered were treated by the line Company Corpsman, and when required, casualties were transferred for further treatment.  No serious delays were encountered in resupply or evacuation during this period.
  38. Lectures are given regularly at both Battalion Aid Stations.
  39. With cooperation of the Battalion Rear Dental Unit and the 4th and 9th Marine Dental Unit, a total of 139 patients were referred.  All arrivals into the Battalion are screened and those presenting a class three of four dental profile are referred to either unit prior to going to the forward area.
