Air Support
Fixed Wing
- Close Air Support. There were one hundred fifty-one missions flown in the Battalion Area of Operations.
- Night close air support – night close air support was used ten times during the month in the Battalions Area of Operation.
- Beacon Controlled close air support – this type of support was used five times by this Battalion during the month of March.
- Aerial Observers. Aerial observers were used one hundred six times on area surveillance missions.
- TPQ’s. This month one hundred forty-seven TPQ’s were flown into the 1st Bn 4th Marines area.
- Arc Lights. There were five Arc Lights in the Battalion area of Operations this month.
- Illumination. Flareships were called on station twenty-one times by the 1st Bn 4th Marines this month.
- Spooky. Aerial support ships ‘Spooky’ were used seven times this month for support of the Battalion’s operations
Helicopter Support
- Troop Lifts
- company size lifts – 7
- platoon size lifts – 2
- Med Evacs. There was a total of twenty-one med evacs sorties for the 1st Bn 4th Marines.
- Time Lapse for Med Evacs. The time lapse from time of request until time of arrival for med evac helicopter varied usually from one half hour to one hour.
- C and C Flights. There were three Command and Control/Visual Reconnaissance sorties.
