Air Support

Fixed Wing

  1. Close Air Support.  There were one hundred fifty-one missions flown in the Battalion Area of Operations.
  2. Night close air support – night close air support was used ten times during the month in the Battalions Area of Operation.
  3. Beacon Controlled close air support – this type of support was used five times by this Battalion during the month of March.
  4. Aerial Observers.  Aerial observers were used one hundred six times on area surveillance missions.
  5. TPQ’s.  This month one hundred forty-seven TPQ’s were flown into the 1st Bn 4th Marines area.
  6. Arc Lights.  There were five Arc Lights in the Battalion area of Operations this month.
  7. Illumination.  Flareships were called on station twenty-one times by the 1st Bn 4th Marines this month.
  8. Spooky.  Aerial support ships ‘Spooky’ were used seven times this month for support of the Battalion’s operations

 

Helicopter Support

  1. Troop Lifts
  2. company size lifts – 7
  3. platoon size lifts – 2
  4. Med Evacs.  There was a total of twenty-one med evacs sorties for the 1st Bn 4th Marines.
  5. Time Lapse for Med Evacs.  The time lapse from time of request until time of arrival for med evac helicopter varied usually from one half hour to one hour.
  6. C and C Flights.  There were three Command and Control/Visual Reconnaissance sorties.
