Annex C  (Air) to Operation Plan 2/69

  1. Situation
  2. Enemy Forces.  Annex B (Intelligence) to Operation Order 2-69
  3. Friendly Forces.  ARVN troops are occupying LZ Henderson (YD 081411).  Reference (a).
  4. Procedures
  5. Pre-D-day aviation support will be requested via the Regimental Air Officer, utilizing reference (b), prior to 0930 24 July 69 for CAS; 1330 24 July 69 for helicopters; 1430 24 July for Air Observer.
  6. Air strikes within AO will be under positive control of TACP, TAC(A) or ASRT.
  7. Coordination of supporting arms will be under the cognizance of the Battalion FSCC.
  8. Six-digit grid coordinates with the appropriate prefix (e.g., YD 080510) will be used to initially identify targets for close air support.
  9. Targets for air strikes will be marked by white phosphorus when possible.
  10. Alternate methods of marking targets consist of using 60mm or 81mm HE; M-60 tracers and/or verbal description.
  11. Maximum utilization of airborne observers (OV-10; 0-1) will be made in the performance of visual reconnaissance and tactical air coordination.
  12. Units will maintain the capability of properly marking their positions with air panels, pen flares, mirrors and/or smoke.
  13. Use standard mission request forms for on call missions (Reference (b).
  14. Helicopter landing zone will be LZ Henderson (YD 081411).
  15. Pick-up zone will be the VCB Landing Strip.
  16. Units will organize into 12 men heliteams and embark in accordance with appendix (1).
  17. L-hour is designated as 0700 25 July 1969.
  18. All units assemble as per enclosure (1) of appendix (1) prior to L-30.
