Communications/Electronics – May 1966

Communications/Electronics

  1. General

The Battalion communications/electronics equipment is in a reasonably high state of readiness, considering the unavailability of certain replacement parts.  The critical shortage of antennae, AT-272, had resulted in the second echelon dead lining of 19 AN/PRC-6 radio sets.  Shortage of replacement tube 5678 has caused an additional 10 AN/PRC-6 radio sets to be placed on second echelon deadline.

  1. Operations

During the month the Battalion participated in two operations. The radio set AN/PRC-25 was used with adequate and reliable success. The AN/MRC-62 radio relay provided satisfactory primary communications with Regimental Headquarters over difficult terrain at a distance of more than 28 miles.  The AN/MRC-62, without prime mover, was successfully lifted by helicopter to a location inaccessible by road and placed in operation.
