Communications

  1. Message Center.  This provides the shackle sheets and brevity Codes for the Command and attachments.  Classified and Non-Classified message handling was exercised.  The Message Center at Dong Ha moved to Quang Tri in late September.
  2. Radio.  The radio section continued its mission of supplying batteries and spare parts in support of the battalion.  Relay stations were utilized during the conduct of all field operations.
  3. Covered Circuit.  The KY-8 circuit was operating prior to Operation SCOTLAND TROUSDALE NORTH, however, during the conduct of the operation the covered circuit was inoperable.
  4. Wire.  Wire sections continued its mission of providing telephone communications in both the forward and rear positions.  Presently the switchboard is being installed at Quang Tri.
  5. Electronics Repair.  The electronics repair section continued to provide 2nd Echelon repair in support of the command.
  6. Radio Relay.  No requirement at the present time.
  7. Critical Shortage.  A shortage of spare parts exists for the AN/PRC-25.  A-10 modules are most critical.
  8. Equipment Repairs.  During the month of September, the following equipment was repaired (first and second echelon):

  10. EE-8 telephone – 4
  11. TA-312 telephone – 1
  12. TA-1/PT – 4
  13. H-138 radio handset – 4
