Logistics

  1. Supply
  2. Class I.  All Class I was drawn at Vandegrift Combat Base in support of operations.  The Battalion Mess served ‘A’ rations three times daily at Vandegrift.  Sandwiches, ice cream, fruit, Class VI and supplemental rations were delivered by helicopter when tactical situations permitted in the field.
  3. Class II.  Battalion Supply remained at Dong Ha with FLSG/B as the source of supply.  Class II supply tents remain at Vandegrift to cut the time lost in transfer of cargo from Dong Ha to Vandegrift CB.  Shortages in the following items were experienced during this period:
  4. Mask, protective (medium)
  5. Socks (small and regular)
  6. Armor parts (M-60 and M-79)
  7. Nozzles and covers (water buffalo)
  8. Five-gallon water cans and three-gallon plastic water containers were utilized very satisfactorily.  During this period there were no significant problems with water supply.
  9. Class III.  Class III was adequate at Vandegrift CB.
  10. Class IV.  Class IV was adequate at Vandegrift CB.
  11. Class V.  Class V was adequate at Vandegrift CB.
  12. Transportation
  13. Organic.  During this month the M151A1 and M274A2 were used for resupply and administrative runs at Vandegrift and Dong Ha.  The Battalion received two (2) M37B1’s of the four (4) rated and this has helped ease the transportation burden of the previous month.
  14. Support.  Division Motor Transport arranged transportation of Class II supplies and personnel from Dong Ha to Vandegrift.  Transportation at Vandegrift CB was coordinated through 4th Marines.  Support was received from 9th Motor Transport Battalion.
  15. Engineer Support.  Engineer support teams provided the Battalion with demolitions capabilities.
