  1. The total number of visits to the Battalion Aid station during the month of April 1967 was 953.

  1. Emergency situations encountered this month were 6 KIA’s (one from G/3/12) and 146 WIA’s.  One patient died of wounds after being transferred.

  6. There were no cases of malaria, scrub typhus or other significant infectious diseases encountered.
  7. There were 81 patients admitted to the Battalion Aid Station Ward.  Four of which were from 3/9 and three from G/3/12.  63 of the patients were transferred from the USS Princeton upon debarkation.

  1. Weekly administrations of chloroquine-primaquine Anti-malarial prophylaxis tablets were continued throughout this month.
  2. Company C received 100% of cholera, plague and gamma goblin immunization.  In H&S Company 70% received cholera and plague immunizations.  148 personnel were completely immunized for leave, R&R and return to CONUS.  47.5% of the Battalion has been immunized against influenza.
  3. There were 13 laboratory procedures performed at the BAS during the month.  These included one Gram Stain for gonorrhea (negative), one urinalysis, and five miscellaneous.
  4. One patient is now on the BAS ward, 38 are on limited duty and 13 in a no-duty status.
  5. Four sanitation inspections were held in the Battalion area and action initiated on all noted discrepancies. An inspection was held by the Division Sanitation Team, and it was determined that the Battalion messing area was the best in the Dong Ha area.  A report of discrepancies has not been received from this inspection.
  6. In addition to providing medical treatment BAS personnel were also involved in building a BAS ward, admin office, sick call office and supply area.
  7. The Bn Surgeon has been with the Command Group A, in the field since 13 April.  Therefore, patients were sent to Company D, 3rd Medical Battalion after screening at the Battalion Aid Station.  A number of patients have been hospitalized at D Med that might have been held at the BAS had the Bn Surgeon been present.
