Medical/Dental Affairs

  1. During the period 1 March through 3 March 1967, available sick bay facilities remained the same as during the previous month.
  2. Throughout this period the USS Iwo Jima continued to serve as the hospital ship for Battalion Landing Team 1/4.
  3. Routine sick call was secured during this period; nine patients were seen in dental sick call.
  4. No significant medical disease entities were encountered during this period.
  5. There were no cases of malaria, heat exhaustion or immersion foot.
  6. Available medical officers remained numerically the same as in the previous month; six-hospital corpsmen lost as combat casualties during the previous month were not replaced during this period.
  7.        The following numbers of casualties were received aboard the USS Iwo Jima during this period:

                        KIA             1

                        WIA            21

                        NCI             1

            All casualties were Marines; no Navy personnel, Viet Cong or Vietnamese civilians were received during this period.

  1. The following numbers of Marines and Navy personnel were further transferred to other medical facilities for definitive surgery, convalescent care or burial processing:

  1. Surgical procedures performed were as follows:
