Medical, Dental and Religious
- The total number of visits to the Battalion Aid Stations during the month of March was 1,241.
- Prevalent medical entities encountered were:
- Gonorrhea – 9
- Diarrhea – 38
- Malaria – 0
- Upper Respiratory Infection – 9
- Neuro-Psychiatric Disorders – 3
- Tonsillitis – 3
- Fever of Unknown Origin – 1
- Heat Exhaustion – 1
- Heat Stroke – 0
- Dermatological Conditions – 21
- All suspected and confirmed cases of venereal disease were given a Serological Test for Syphilis in accordance with NVAMED 22-18 and the result entered in the individual’s health record.
- A total of 56 patients were referred to D Company, 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Division (Rein) FMF. Of those referred, the following were consults:
- Dental – 30
- Ophthalmology – 10
- Laboratory work – 10
- Dermatology – 1
Patients in need of further care were referred from the Medical Battalion to the following medical facilities:
- NSA, Da Nang – 18
- USS Sanctuary – 2
- Phu Bai – 2
- 22nd Casualty Staging Facility – 3
- Weekly malaria prophylaxis was continued through the use of Chloroquine Primaquine tablets.
- Sanitation inspections were held weekly in accordance with Article P6000.4D in the Battalion area (Dong Ha and A-4). Sanitary facilities at the present are considered adequate.
- Three Battalion Aid Stations are presently being maintained. A Forward Battalion Aid Station consisting of a Battalion Surgeon and seven Hospital Corpsmen located at A-4, a secondary Battalion Aid Station consisting of seven Hospital Corpsmen located at A-4 and a Rear Battalion Aid Station consisting of nine Hospital Corpsmen located at Dong Ha. All injuries and maladies encountered were treated by the line Company Corpsmen and if needed, sent to one of the Battalion Aid Stations for further treatment and evacuation. No serious delays were encountered in resupply or med-evac during this period.
- Catholic Mass was provided for the Battalion on a daily basis.
- Cotholic Mass was provided for 2/1 and 3/4 by the Battalion Chaplain while three Battalions occupied C-2 and C-2 Bridge positions.
- Protestant Divine Services were held by visiting Chaplains on weekdays instead of on Sundays.
- Twelve men from the Battalion attended the Latter Day Saints’ conference held at China Beach R&R, Da Nang.
