Personnel and Administration

  1. General.
  2. During the reporting period, the Battalion’s administration section was located at Dong Ha.  At the close of the reporting period, each rifle company was averaging 34 men below manning level and 100 were in a non-effective status.  This Battalion is presently 11 officers below M/L in the 0302 MOS and still has a critical shortage of 0402.

  9. Awards.  There were no awards presented during the reporting period, however, the following type awards were processed recommending approval.

  25. Morale
  26. Morale continued to be high.  Out-of-Country R&R quotas utilized for the month were: Hawaii – 20, Bangkok – 17, Hong Kong – 9, Taipei – 9, Sydney – 8, Tokyo – 8, Okinawa – 4, Kuala Lumpur –3, Singapore – 3, Penang –3, Manila –3.  For In-Country R&R, a total of 17 quotas were used.
  27. During the month 48 Lance Corporals were promoted to Corporal, 107 Privates First Class were promoted to Lance Corporal and 12 Privates were promoted to Private First Class.  One Corporal was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant, one Lance Corporal was meritoriously promoted to Corporal and 3 Privates First Class were promoted meritoriously to Lance Corporal.
  28. Religious Services.
  29. Attendance at the Battalion’s religious services was excellent.  Roman Catholic and Protestant coverage was considered complete. Jewish personnel were afforded the opportunity to attend services at Dong Ha.
