  2. Joined 1 USMC Officer (OF 25), 119 USMC Enlisted, USN  0 Officers, 9 USN Enlisted.
  3. Shortages of Officers (OF 03) remain critical; a total of 17 Officers is required to bring the Battalion up to T/O.  There is a shortage of Enlisted in (OF01) with a total of 10 needed to bring the Battalion up to T/O.  With the formation of the 106 Recoilless Rifle Platoon, there is a shortage in MOS 0351 with 64 needed to bring up to T/O.

During the period covered, there were no violations that required disciplinary action.

  1. Graves Registration

Thirteen USMC Enlisted KIA’s were evacuated to ‘A’ Company, 3rd Medical Battalion; seven were evacuated to ‘C’ Company.  One Navy Enlisted KIA was evacuated to ‘A’ Company, 3rd Medical Battalion, and two were evacuated to ‘C’ Company.  There were 302 confirmed and 271 probable Viet Cong KIA’s for the period covered.  There was no time for burial, so the bodies remained where they had fallen.

  1. Morale and Personnel Services
  2. State of morale is good; PX facilities have been utilized by all hands in the rear.  The personnel in the field were given sundry packs for the essential health and comfort items.  The Battalion promoted 2 to Gunnery Sergeant, 1 to Staff Sergeant, 41 to Sergeant, 17 to Corporal, and 31 to Lance Corporal.  Due to operational commitments, R&R was not available for the month.  Postal services continue to be satisfactory.

  4. Personnel Procedures

During the period covered, the Battalion participated in Operation Prairie with their base of operations in the Dong Ha/Cam Lo Area.  The rear administration was located at Hue/Phu Bai.  As shown in paragraphs 1.b and 2.a, the Battalion decreased in Officer strength by 1, and in Enlisted strength by 61.

  1. Interior Management

The Battalion is presently quartered in Ely Huts.  However, during the period covered, the Battalion lived in CP tents.

  1. Civilian Employees

At present there are no Vietnamese civilians employed by this Battalion.
