Training
- In April, Battalion level training was conducted, along with company level classes, in accordance with the Battalion Training SOP. A weekly training schedule was published which promulgated the following classes.
- FO Procedure. The Battalion Artillery Liaison Officer gave a one-hour class and set up a two-hour demonstration, utilizing mortars to provide a means of practical application. The purpose was to acquaint the individual Marine with the process of calling and adjusting supporting fire missions.
- First Aid. A one-hour class was presented to each Marine on the basics of first aid/health and hygiene. Emphasis was placed on the prevention of heat casualties due to the extreme heat which the Battalion will be subjected to in the near future.
- Marksmanship/Squad Tactics. A two-hour class and six hours of practical application was conducted to give each Marine as much supervised practice as possible in field firing of them TO weapon and working with combat formations and signals on the squad level. A continuing program is planned for this training.
- Code of Conduct. A one-hour refresher class was held to explain what the code of conduct is and the importance of each Marine living up to its standards.
- Company level training was conducted on subjects most needed to meet our present tactical requirements.
- All replacement personnel received an administrative briefing from the Commanding Officer, each Executive and Special Staff Section head and each Company Commander in accordance with the Battalion SOP, for replacement training. Each replacement was afforded an opportunity to FAM fire his TO weapon.
