Membership Issues
Over the years Thurman Moore has collected partial contact information from 5 to 6 thousand 1/4ers and families. Some former 1/4ers who know about our association wish to keep active contact, some do not. Some who would like contact do not know of our association. Our association can and has provided beneficial contact to many 1/4ers and families during both good and hard times.
1. Accurate count of our members, Life, Annual, and Associate is not currently possible; contact or status changes with many has not been updated. Some of that can change. We’re asking your help to update our lists and learn the whereabouts of lost members. For example, we’ve had some members pass and have not sent convalescence to widows and families. Kirk Hauser will manage updated information and work with Thurman to make updated information available on the 1/4 website under the heading “Finding Lost Members”. Contact Kirk at: khauser@illinois.edu or 706 Harmon Urbana, Il 61801 or (773) 317-6179.
2. In March 2016 139 new Life Membership cards were printed with the names recorded on our roster at that time. Since then new member’s names had to be stamped on one by one. Some new members’ cards were dispensed in Sturbridge or by mail. A better stamping system showing names is now available. Please contact Kirk regarding any Life Membership card issues.

Thurman,
If I do the work of collecting correspondence from our members updating the status of lost members maybe I could provide that info to you and you could list that updated info on our website for all to see. But again, I don’t know how you might want to use other headings/message board/etc to display this information.
Kirk

I was with Hq.Co.4thMarines Sept.67 to Oct.68. I was TAD to “C” 1/4 sometime late July to Sept. 68 on a hill overlooking abandoned KheSanh. I was a radio operator with air team at Camp Carroll, LZ Stud & Calu. This TAD assignment as it was only a few weeks, I don’t know if that qualifies me to be a member of your association.
Not sure if my last message got through – yes, Glenn, you certainly can join our association. Under “membership” on the 1/4 website fill out the Web Site Muster, then under “Association Membership” fill out the battalion membership form and sent it to me at the address shown.

I was with A-1-4 and H&S-1-4 from October 1956 through October 1958. I have a life time membership in the 1stBattalion, 4th Marine Association. While with A-1-4 I was mostly in 60mm Mortars as a gunner. Just before being transferred back to Camp Pendleton I had a MOS change to 3411 Disbursing NCO with H&S-1-4. I went on to spend many more years in the Marine Corps with other units.
